Benefits of Building Your Own "Link in Bio" Page

Before we dive into the setup, let's explore the benefits of creating your own "link in bio" page:

  1. SEO Benefits: By linking to your site from social media, you're enhancing your SEO with backlinks from trusted platforms.

  2. Brand Consistency: You have complete control over your visuals, ensuring your link in bio reflects your brand's identity with your own domain name.

  3. Tracking: Use tools like bit.ly for tracking clicks, or utilize your website’s built-in analytics.

  4. Cost-Effective: Avoid paying extra for another platform or managing multiple accounts.

Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up Your Link in Bio Page

1. Access Your Squarespace Dashboard
Let's start on the back end of my Designing the Row website. This is my link in bio page, and here's what it looks like on desktop—though most users will access it via mobile.

2. Create a New Page
To begin, navigate to the Pages section of your Squarespace account. Click on the ‘+’ icon to create a new page, selecting ‘Blank’ from the options. Name your page something recognizable like ‘Link in Bio.’

3. Add Buttons for Links
Now, let’s focus on the most important part: the buttons. Start by creating your first button. Select the style you want to use, then click the duplicate button (the icon that looks like two blocks) to create as many buttons as you need.

  • For each button, enter the relevant text. For instance, you might label one button "Enter Website" and link it to your homepage, while another could be "YouTube Channel" with the corresponding URL. If you prefer to track clicks, consider using bit.ly links for better analytics.

4. Style Your Page
Now, let’s head to the mobile view since that’s where most of your audience will be. Style your buttons to ensure they look good on both desktop and mobile. You can add a background image to your page. If you already have an image on the back end of your Squarespace site, you can drag and drop it here, or you can browse stock images.

Once your background image is in place, adjust the colors. For example, using a darker background can help your buttons pop.

5. Add Text and Images
Enhance your page with some text at the top, like "Thanks for visiting My Link in Bio." Center the text for a clean look. You might also want to add a profile picture. If it's not already in a circle, you can easily crop it within Squarespace.

You can also include your logo and any social media icons. If you need to layer images, use the layering options to move graphics forward or backward.

6. Preview Your Page
Once everything is set, preview your page in both desktop and mobile views. Make sure all the elements fit nicely and are easy to navigate.

7. Customize Your URL
When you’re satisfied with your page, don’t forget to customize the URL. Hover over your page name and click the settings gear. Here, you can change the URL slug to something like /link-in-bio or any other name you prefer.

8. Final Touches
If desired, you can hide the header and footer for a cleaner look. However, I recommend keeping them visible so visitors can navigate back to your website easily.

Conclusion

And there you have it! A fully functional "link in bio" page on your Squarespace website. This setup not only helps in organizing your most important links but also ensures a consistent branding experience for your visitors.
