How to Customize a Squarespace Wedding Template: A Step-by-Step Guide
Hello, my bride friend (or groom)! If you know that you want a website for your wedding, which is a fantastic idea, especially these days when everything is so digital, and you want to do that on Squarespace, you have come to the right place. I'm going to show you how to customize a Squarespace wedding template and make it your own, so you can get back to the more fun stuff of planning your wedding.
Step 1: Choose Your Template
First, go to Squarespace.com/templates and hit "All Templates" because I know which one I want to select. Use the command F for find and type in "Dario." This is the template that I will show you how to use today. Avoid clicking on the sample color presets; instead, start with the basic design.
Step 2: Set Your Site Name
The first thing Squarespace will ask you for is the site name. In this case, you're likely going to want to make it your names (whoever is getting married). After that, close out of the initial guide Squarespace provides. You'll see your customized names in the top left.
Step 3: Customize Fonts and Colors
Before diving into other customizations, focus on fonts and colors. If you have wedding colors and fonts already (like from a wedding invite or save the date), use those to keep things consistent.
Fonts: Click the paintbrush icon for site styles and start with fonts. Click on headings, then browse all fonts to find the ones that match your wedding theme. Change the font size and weight as needed. Do the same for paragraphs, buttons, and miscellaneous text. I recommend sticking to two fonts for a clean and easy-to-read design.
Colors: Click on colors in site styles. If you have specific colors from your wedding palette, enter those in the edit palette section. Generally, use a light color, an accent color, a dark color, and a neutral like black or charcoal. You can also use the "select from image" feature to pull colors from an engagement picture.
Step 4: Edit the Site Header
Start customizing your page from the top. Click "Edit Site Header" and then the pencil icon on the button to link it to the RSVP page or another link you prefer. To change the button design, go back to site styles and make the button filled instead of outlined if it doesn’t show up well on pictures.
Step 5: Customize Your Wedding Website Homepage
Next, work on your homepage. Edit the site header and customize the text with your names and wedding details. Change the background image by hovering over the section, clicking edit section, and then uploading your chosen image.
Step 6: Edit Section by Section
Scroll through the page and repeat the process for each section. Each section will generally include a background image and text. For text blocks, simply click and type in your customized content. For images, click the pencil icon, delete the sample image, and upload your own.
Step 7: Add and Edit New Sections
If you need to add more information than the template provides, click "Add a Section" while hovering over any section in edit mode. Choose a blank section, then add blocks for text, images, or even videos. Customize these sections as needed.
Step 8: Customize the Footer
The footer will appear on every page of your site. Click "Edit Site Footer" and customize it with your names and other relevant links like your RSVP link. You can also remove any unnecessary text.
Step 9: Mobile Optimization
Check how your website looks on mobile by clicking the mobile view icon in the top right. Adjust the placement and spacing of text and buttons to ensure everything looks good on smaller screens.
Step 10: Edit Additional Pages
Location: Create and edit the location page by clicking "Edit." Add your wedding location details, background images, and a map.
Gifts: For the gifts page, link to your registries or add buttons for different registry options.
RSVP: Customize the RSVP page by editing the form. Add or remove fields, change the button text, and set up the storage options to ensure all responses are emailed to you and backed up in a Google Sheet.
Final Touches
After customizing all the pages, hit save and preview your website to make sure everything looks perfect. Once you're satisfied, publish your site and share it with your guests!
